How to Remove Oil Stains From Asphalt Driveway in Step-by-Step Instructions

#1 Absorb what you can as fast as you can.  Depending on the size of the stain, this could be a paper towel a rag, or a cheap absorbent material like kitty litter.  Once absorbed, brush or blow away the excess.  Check to make sure no extra is coming off.  If so, repeat this process.

#2 Optional – Apply a light application of a degreaser to the area.  If you have any kind of run off, you have too much.  This is only a small application applied to the top of the stain, do not soak.  Allow the degreaser to penetrate the stain for a few minutes.  Simple Green or any other degreaser is a great choice.

#3 Optional – Lightly scrub the stained area with a wire brush.  You are scrubbing to open the stain, do not use too much force or you may end up digging in to your asphalt.

#4 Apply BIO-DRY Asphalt Special Blend Cleaner to the area.  While it can spread thin, apply to completely cover the stained area.  Use a standard push broom to move the product over the area, giving it a chance to cover and attach to the stain.

#5 Optional – Use your wire brush again lightly to brush the stains.  This helps to trap more of the stain with the BIO-DRY cleaner as it breaks loose from the asphalt surface.  After wire brushing, use the broom to make sure the stain is completely covered before leaving.

#6 Repeat as needed – Typically we see a one to two week time between applications for professional applications due to travel time and costs.  This time may be sooner if you have easy access to the area as application time is quick.  If you see an area “shine” through, where the area looks dark, go to step three and repeat in that area to help speed up the process.
